Sri Lanka This small country in southern India, formerly known as "Ceylon", is considered one of the most important tourist attractions in the world and Marco Polo said of it "the most beautiful island in the world". There are many wonderful things to see and do on your trip to Sri Lanka. Nuwara Eliya is one of the most important tourist attractions in Sri Lanka, the city known as "Little England" because of the British colonial influences. Nuwara Eliya was “founded” by explorer Samuel Baker in 1846 and quickly became a vacation spot for British settlers who wanted to escape the heat on the coast and enjoy the clean breeze of the Sri Lankan mountains.
The city of Peradeniya contains more than 5,000 species of plants, exotic flowers, tropical fruits, and the Royal Botanical Gardens. You will also be able to see the Buddha Temple, which was built in the 17th century. And in it was found the most important Buddhist scripture “Tripitaka”.
The ancient capital of Sri Lanka
Anuradhapura, the ancient capital of the country, is home to the oldest tree in the world, the Sri Maha Bodhi. It is said that this tree was brought to the country by Sangamita, daughter of Emperor Asoka hundreds of years ago. And the stone castle built by King “Kashyapa” in the 5th century AD is one of the most valuable monuments in Sri-Lanka, which is considered by the locals to be the eighth wonder of the world. It is a palace and castle built on a huge rocky plateau at an altitude of 370 meters above sea level. Visit the nearby gardens and go see a new colossal (12m) Buddha statue carved by an unknown artist.
The last places that you should visit are the Dambulla caves, which are 5 caves in the UNESCO Heritage, as they include many statues in an area of 2100 meters. You will also see the city of “Negombo” before returning to the capital, Colombo.
