The five most beautiful museums worth visiting in the capital of light, Paris
Of all the cities in the world, none of them has as many museums and grandiose monuments as Paris. Almost any museum in the capital of France hosts famous antiquities, whether we are talking about abstract paintings, Renaissance sculptures, photographs, or perfumes.
Often, wanting to locate as many museums and attractions as possible, many tourists spend their vacations rushing from one tourist point to another. We recommend that you do not do this. Paris is a bohemian city to be enjoyed with its museums, boulevards, cafes, and gorgeous gardens.
Below we list some of the best museums to visit in the City of Lights:
Louvre Museum. Located in the Louvre Palace, the former residence of France's kings, the museum hosts a collection of more than 380,000 works of art collected around the world. It dates from the sixth millennium to the nineteenth century.
Among its most famous pieces includes the mysterious Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and the ancient Greek sculpture of the Venus of Milo. But this museum also hosts some surprises, including the Apollo Gallery, the Golden Room designed by Louis XIV, and some of the last remaining pieces of France's crown jewels.
Dorsey Museum. A former railway station, this museum built for the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris is a true work of architecture and art. D'Orsay has a collection of art dating from 1848 to 1914, notably with its impressive works including works by Manet, Van Gogh, Millet, Degas, Camille Claudel, Renoir, Gustav Klimt, and Edvard Munch. Here you can enjoy painting, sculpture, painting, photography, and architecture.
If you want to save money, we suggest you visit the museum on the first Sunday of the month when admission is free.
Pompidou Centre. Europe's largest museum of modern art, the Center Pompidou is known for its stunning temporary exhibitions, often dedicated to the work of a single artist. The center itself is a true work of art. Designed by a team of international architects led by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, who gave it a checkered and colorful design, the museum building has become a distinctive part of France's capital since the 20th century.
It is the place to admire autographed works by Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Dali, Miro, Kandinsky, and some of the most popular contemporary artists.
Rodin Museum. Auguste Rodin is one of the most famous French sculptors and this museum, located in Rodin's former home, contains one of the largest collections of works he created. The museum's collections are on display in the house and in the beautiful garden surrounding the house. You will also find a room dedicated to the work of Camille Claudel, a friend, and colleague of the famous sculptor who some say is even more talented than Rodin.
Museum of Decorative Arts. Together, this collection (along with the Museum of Fashion and Textiles and the Museum of Advertising) is one of the most important collections of design and decorative art worldwide. Located in the western wing of the Louvre, the museum was opened for the first time a century ago and reopened in 2006 after a €35 million restoration.
The collection on display consists of approximately 150,000 objects, more than 6,000 of which have been donated by private collectors. The main focus is on French furniture and tableware. From extravagant carpets to delicate crystals and ceramics, there is a lot to enjoy at this museum.
As you can see Paris has a lot to offer. Although this list lists the most important museums, we encourage you not to forget the dozens of museums, parks, gardens, and other monuments for the full experience.
